Article in youth justice.
Make a difference in a young person's life.
Build your legal skills while helping young people access justice. Our Articling Student Program offers hands-on experience in youth diversion, restorative justice and community-based support.
Working alongside our team and under the supervision of an articling principal, you'll learn how legal professionals, families and communities can work together to help young people move forward.
Learn through work that matters.
Our restorative approach brings young people and those affected by harm into a process of listening, accountability and repair. As an articling student, you'll support this work while gaining a deeper understanding of the youth justice system and the barriers young people face.
You'll see how restorative justice works in practice and how that experience can shape the lawyer you become.
What you'll do
Support young people and families.
Help explain the restorative circle process, program expectations and available options so young people and their families understand what comes next.
Help manage youth diversion cases.
Contribute to intake, case management and court reports, working with our staff and circle facilitators to support each young person's progress.
Work with justice and community partners.
Gain experience communicating with defence counsel, Crown attorneys, court staff and community organizations involved in supporting youth.
Explore legal issues in practice.
Support our team with questions relating to youth justice, privacy and confidentiality under the guidance of your articling principal.
Bring your interest in a different kind of justice.
This program is for aspiring lawyers with an interest in youth justice, restorative practices and public interest work. It offers an opportunity to develop practical skills in communication, collaboration and advocacy while learning directly from young people and the people who support them.
