The Peacebuilders team recently hosted members of the Taiwanese Judicial Yuan Juvenile and Family Department to share insights on their youth restorative programs. The visit, marked by gracious interaction and mutual learning, highlighted Peacebuilders’ impactful work in fostering restorative justice for young people.

The delegation from Taiwan’s judiciary showed deep interest in Peacebuilders’ approach to youth justice, which focuses on healing, accountability, and community reintegration. Through presentations and discussions, the Peacebuilders team shared their experiences implementing restorative justice models that emphasize dialogue, conflict resolution, and community healing over punitive measures. The Taiwanese delegation was keen to explore how a community agency works within the justice system.

We thank Dr. Susan S. Chuang, Associate Editor, Journal of Family Psychology and Professor, for facilitating this meeting. Dr. Chang said, “I was honoured to be the organizer/facilitator for the Taiwanese Justices to meet with the amazing Peacebuilders Team. The Justices took fierce notes as the amount of detailed knowledge shared with them would also benefit them and their colleagues across Taiwan. I was truly amazed at the Team and their critical work for our youths and families. I truly hope to work with them, formally or informally, in the future.”

The visit highlights Peacebuilders’ growing reputation as a leader in restorative justice, with their methods now drawing international attention. It also serves as a reminder of the universal desire to improve systems for youth justice, focusing on rehabilitation and well-being of young people.
