Bouchard Père et Fils Meursault 2013, Burgundy, France A later picked Meursault from a tumultuous growing season, the richness of this wine is still pervasive but with a nutty, honeyed attitude. |
Château La Louvière 1995, Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France With plum, mushroom and dusty dried herbs, here is a classic representation of aged Bordeaux from the gravelly, southerly region of Pessac-Léognan. An esteemed Château and an excellent vintage, this aging cabernet-driven beauty offers subtle complexity and memorable length. |
Prà Amarone della Valpolicella 2010, Veneto, Italy Graziano Prà has long produced reference point wines in the Soave Classico region and began releasing exceptional Valpolicella blends in 2006 based on Val d’Illasi plantings of corvina, corvinone, the rare oseleta and rondinella grape varieties. Prà’s style is characteristically more delicate than most in Amarone as the winery searches for elegance over power. |
Rizzi Barbaresco 2013, Piedmont, Italy The Rizzi estate is one of the largest and most varied in Barbaresco centred in the steeply elevated hills of Trieso producing energetic and creative wines based on nebbiolo. Sourced from vines planted in 1967, this Barbaresco has been delicately weathered by time in bottle with fully softened tannins, earth and an array of dried fruit and floral on offer. |
J.L. Chave Selection Crozes-Hermitage Silène 2012, Rhône, France French-born and California-trained, renowned winemaker Jean-Louis Chave is both an innovative producer and a négociant in the Rhône Valley. Silène is a minimally touched syrah, half of which is grown in the granitic soils of his own estate, and features pepper, mineral and violets unstifled by heavy oak. |
d’Arenberg Shiraz The Dead Arm 2012, McLaren Vale, Australia Curiously named after a notorious vine disease that tends to kill one side of the vine leaving a “dead arm” but leaves a low-yielding arm that is capable of producing exceptional wines. This iconic Australian shiraz is sourced from the winery’s top vineyards and often exhibits a flavour of salty, balsamic-drizzled figs as it ages. |
